The Heidelberg West Neighbourhood Renewal site is L-shaped geographically bounded by Bell Street, Liberty Parade, Dougharty Road and Oriel Road to Southern Road, Southern Road east to Waterdale Road and Waterdale Road to Bell Street. Properties on both the east and west side of Liberty Parade are included in the area as is a small pocket of walk up properties on the eastern side of Waterdale Road between Lloyd St and Altona St. The site includes the Olympic Village area.

Approximately 4800 people live within this Heidelberg West area.

The area is culturally diverse. The proportion of indigenous people living in Heidelberg West is approximately four times larger than for metropolitan Melbourne. Almost thirty percent of the residents were born overseas with large numbers from Somalia, China, Vietnam and Lebanon.

Heidelberg West is an area rich in history and diversity, and harbouring strong community spirit. The Olympic Village in Heidelberg West was the home of the Olympic athletes during the 1956 Melbourne Games and many families present during those times are still living in the area. The Heidelberg West community is a proud community that would like to see improvements in the area for their children and future generations to come.
